When is it MY turn?
So, firstly, this isn’t us being selfish.
Oestrogen drives our reproductive life and that includes influencing our daily behaviours towards caring and nurturing, to give our offspring the best chance. When oestrogen levels drop in peri-menopause, those tending and befriending instincts also diminish and our thoughts turn to ourselves.
So, really important:
A) This isn’t something we can help,
B) This is a natural part of life.
So if anyone tries to guilt you about this, put them straight!
Most women jump through the usual hoops of life - career, kids, partner. However great the career, kids and partner have been, there is often a cost. Many of us reach mid-life feeling unfulfilled or feeling like we’ve lost our mojo. We feel instinctively that it’s time for another chapter, but what will that chapter be?
We ask ourselves:
'where will the time and resources come from for this new thing?'
'How will I find the confidence to experiment?'
'Who even AM I these days? What is it I want?'
But women in mid-life deserve our turn – hell, it’s good for our health! Studies such as Financial Circumstances, Health & Wellbeing of the Older Population in England, show that women over 50 experience a marked decline in wealth, health and quality of life, which just gets worse with age.
When we are busy with activities that inspire and fulfill us, it keeps us youthful and engaged, guarding against health problems such as joint issues and dementia. If we can earn from what we’re doing, it will support our living standards.
For many good reasons, but mostly just because we deserve it, it's time to start figuring out anew who we are and what we want, so we can start living our exciting and satisfying next chapter.
If you are a woman in mid-life, it really is your turn, and if you want any help figuring out your next chapter, book your Time For Me Chat on Zoom and let’s get started.
